The Chariho Times . 3/16/08 ~   American fare with a kick at W.B. Cody's. I hadn't been to W.B. Cody's in probably 15 years. As we whizzed along on Route 1, on a recent dark winter night, we missed Guitanno's Cafe in the plaza where the DMV resides, and didn't turn back. So we ended up at Cody's and were glad we did. I guess I'd classify Cody's as standard, American fare with a little extra flare. For example, the crock of clam chowder had a little extra kick of something my palate couldn't quite place. Bacon perhaps? Now you'd expect ribs to have a kick but I ordered the sweeter variety to go along with my personality. The bucket of ribs from the starter menu is advertised as "One and a half pounds of individually sliced pork loins. Finished with Kansas City Sweet BBQ or texas Hot BBQ." at $9.99, this dish was tender, flavorful, and not discernibly fatty. it seemed like it was all meat on those bones. Yum. After the crock of chowder, the ribs were filling me up, so I generously shared some with my fellow diner who agreed they were mmm mmm good. He ordered the salmon special, with lemon pepper, baked potato and vegetable of the day - string beans that night. Pretty basic but he's a straightforward kind of guy. At $13.99, his meal was very pleasing to the palate and the pocket book. After a 15-year absence, one of the things that struck me was the lack of the smokey atmosphere. I remember getting home and smelling BBQ smoke in my hair and on my clothes, way back when. Our waiter told us they do all the smoking and BBQing in the basement now. We also noted the prompt, courteous service, flavorful food and the reasonable prices. Oh and one more thing. The atmosphere and decor in the restaurant suited us just fine. We sat in a cozy booth in the bar area. Sometimes that loud, pumping music gets to us at other restaurants. That wasn't the case at Cody's. Our total bill for three beers, chowder, ribs, and salmon was $42. Not bad. Not bad at all. If you go there are many other starters and meals to choose from - of course. Some of the starter selections I might try next time, include Tumbleweeds - homemade onion rings at $4.19, Texas Black Bean Chili at $4.99, or even the Taco Salad at $7.99. There are also many sandwich selections including burgers, and BBQ pork and beef brisket, as well as full sized meals such as steak, pasta, and lots of BBQ selections - ribs, chicken. Like I said before they all seem to have a little extra. There's a burger with crumbled bleu cheese and some sandwiches come with jalapeno tartar sauce. They even have eggplant fries. W.B. Jason S. 3/11/07 ~   I was taking the family out to Applebees tonight when we caught a wiff of barbeque smoke from rte 1... seriously!! We had to stop, and what a great decision that was. The atmosphere was casual but fun, the staff was friendly, and the food was delicious. The kids enjoyed it and were out of their seats most of the time looking at all the memorabilia. I would highly recommend WB Cody's to anyone looking for a nice family dinner out.

With the wedding and other events we are just now starting to get back into our normal routine. Thank you Marty, for bringing the great spread and setting it up at the house and Chad for being right there at the end to pick up the equipment. Please give our thanks to all involved- the preparers , cooks, and the staff- as they did an exceptional job as always. Their hard work was certainly appreciated as our guests raved about all the chicken, ribs, cole slaw, potatoes and vegetables. There was certainly ample delicious food for all. And as usual, it was prepared perfectly and ready to go as the guests arrived. You can take pride in your staff and W.B. Cody's service as it is singularly impressive.
